A belly cast is a three-dimensional plaster sculpture of a woman's pregnant belly for the purpose of having a keepsake of the pregnancy.
Belly casts are often made during the 7th or 8th month of pregnancy and some women choose to make a series of them capturing the progression of their pregnancy. Belly casts are made by preparing the skin with a coating of Vaseline or a similar product. Strips of wet medical grade plaster gauze are layered over the pregnant tummy. Some women choose to also cast their breasts into a full torso sculpture. The plaster sets in about 20–30 minutes; this is followed by air drying for 24–48 hours. The belly cast can be decorated with any number of finishes or designs or left in its natural state.
At what month of the pregnancy the casting should be done?
You can do so as soon as your pregnancy develops. But the best time is between 34th and 38th weeks of pregnancy. You should be able to feel at ease because you remain seated and immobile for about 1 hour. Do not wait too late and could give birth before they had the chance to make your cast. The session can be done in the comfort of your home or in my home studio.
This plaster sculpture is solid and will be protected. So you can hang it on a wall or shoulder to a foot on a desk.
You may choose to decorate your cast to co-ordinate with your room or home decor.When can you receive your bellycast?
