What's a belly cast?
A belly cast is a 3D plaster sculpture of a woman's pregnant abdomen, the belly. It's also known by other names such as a belly mask, pregnancy belly cast, a pregnant plaster cast and prenatal casts.
A belly cast is an exact replica of your pregnant form, your tummy, and an excellent way to capture and remember this amazing time in your life.
It's unique, a personnalise artwork made from the form of you belly. You can choose what part of your body you want the plaster to covert: Only your belly or with your breast, shoulders, your thights, your husband hand, older siblings or yours.
You don't have to be breast naked although casting with a bra will leave lines. If a bra or a top is worn, the garment should be covered in cling wrap to reduce its visibility in the finished product.
The whole process takes anywhere from 1-3 hours depending on cast size. You'll be seated in a comfortable reclined position or you can stand for the perfect form of your belly.
I put Vaseline with warm plaster gauze layered over the belly to replicate the shape. It takes about 15 minutes to dry then we gently removed it. You have to choose if you want it natural, painted, with collage or anyway else!
I use only products of great quality, hypoallergenique from a known belly cast kit. It's completly safe for the baby and for you.
what is the best time to do it?
Belly casts are most often made during the 34e and the 38e week or 30 to 32 weeks for twins. Some women choose to make a series of belly casts thereby capturing the progression of their pregnancy. Don't forget you will have to be immobile for at least 1 hour.
Don't wait to long and risk to give birth before doing it! The belly cast can be done at your place or at mine.
A belly cast is a gift for you and for your child. A cherished memorie that will be hang in the nursary or else where. Everytime, you'll look at it, touch it, you'll relive your pregnancy and it will be a beautiful and precious keepsake.
When your child will be older, he'll be able to feel what it might have been to be inside of you. He'll feel all the love you have for him, even before he was born.
A few precautions
Bring old comfortable pans. Don't forget they'll be dirty from the plaster. But It should wash away. You can also bring an old bra or little top if you would prefer to be cover.
